How will I feel about the SAYL Chair in five years?

I am a writer and software developer and spend perhaps too much time sitting in front of my computer. I am redesigning my workspace, starting with the chair.

Are the arms removable?

If you have an older Aeron Chair with the thumb wheel adjustment on the back of the chair arms, the arms are removable. All newer models of the Aeron Chair are now built with a lever lock adjustment on the back of the arm. If you have the lever lock adjustment, the arms are not removable.

Sewing chair for arthritic person

My wife has chronic arthritis with stenosis in her back. She is an experienced quilter but now has to sit in a straight chair on cushions either at a small quilt frame or holding the work on her lap. I want to find a comfortable chair for her. We think some version of an Aeron chair might be suitable. I have tried to find a store near San Antonio so we can discuss her needs but all I get are sites telling one to go ahead and buy. We need more information than that. Thanks, Bill

Based on the information you provided about your wife, you may want to consider a Mirra Chair. While Aeron and our Embody Chairs are also great choices for back problems, I think you will find that Mirra will be best suited for your wife's situation. Mirra's seat has a waterfall edge, which allows for adjusting the seat pan to fit your body. It is designed so the back of your legs do not hit the front of the seat edge, which can sometimes be a problem.

When leaning back, Mirra's back support flows with your body, which is ideal for people who have back issues. It will allow your wife to recline in her seat without putting added stress on her back. The arm rests also allow you to adjust them vertically, horizontally and pivot inward and outward. This will provide flexible support for her arms while sewing. We would recommend choosing a Mirra with the following options:

- Tilt Limiter and Seat Angle - this will allow you to adjust the tilt range and either a horizontal or 4 degree forward seat angle
- Adjustable Arms - to adjust the arms for flexibility while sewing

Latitude back cover?

Where is the option for the latitude back covers? The midnight blue might be cool, but I can't find the option nor any good pictures of it on the chair. Thank you.

The Mirra Chair is now available with the Latitude upholstered back option on the Herman Miller Store. The upholstered back option is available with either the 'Tilt Limiter' or 'Tilt Limiter and Seat Angle' option.

If you select the upholstered back option when configuring your chair, you will now be able to see images of the chair with the fabric back at the top of your page. The image will show what each Latitude color option looks like on the chair.

Back Support

Is there a model without the adjustible back support?
I just received model OD-MR12Q.

We now offer all models of the Mirra Chair on the Herman Miller Store with or without the adjustable back support. The adjustable lumbar support is designed to fill the curve in your back while in the recline position and will also support the small of your back while in the upright position. It allows you to adjust both height and depth to fit your body. If you would like to order the chair without the adjustable support, you can select that option in the Back Support section when configuring your chair.

Is the Aeron chair available in white? If not now, will it be in the near future? I believe that I saw it available in white about a year ago.

We do not currently offer Aeron with a white frame or fabric - our lightest option is our Titanium base with Smoke frame, which is a light grey color. At this time, we do not have plans to offer Aeron in white in the near future, but we certainly appreciate your feedback. We always keep our customer's feedback in mind when looking at adding options to our products.

We do offer several of our other chairs in white though. Our SAYL, Setu and Embody chairs are all available with white frames. Several other chairs are also available with white fabric options and polished aluminum frames, such as the Eames Aluminum Group products.

What is the difference between the casters?

All caster options for the Embody Chair are suitable for carpet. There are a couple differences between the casters though, so we would recommend choosing the option that best fits the environment you will be using the Embody Chair in. Here are descriptions of each caster option available:

- Carpet Casters - Well suited for carpet and available in black.

- Hard Floor or Carpet Casters - Allows you the flexibility to use the chair on both hard floors or carpet and available in black.

- Translucent Hard Floor or Carpet Casters - Allows you to the flexibility to use the chair on both hard floors or carpet and available in a translucent color.
